Turkish Foreign Ministry Spokesman Onc Keceli criticized Foreign Minister Israel Katz over his comments against President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, recalling that it was the Israeli military that killed 35,000 Palestinian civilians.
“The Israeli authorities should be ashamed. They massacred some 35,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children. Efforts by Israeli officials to change the agenda will not yield results.” Kecheri said in a written statement late on April 20.
In a message on his social media, Katz posted a photo of Erdoğan and Hamas’ political director Ismail Haniyeh, and said the Turkish president should be ashamed of himself for meeting with a Hamas official.
Kecheri reiterated that President Turkiye’s priority is to end the genocide in Gaza and establish a Palestinian state to ensure lasting peace in the region.
“We will continue to work in this direction and tell the truth about the crimes committed by the Israeli authorities,” he added.
Meanwhile, Omer Çelik, spokesperson for the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), also criticized Israel’s foreign minister in a statement on social media.
“The Israeli foreign minister’s brash remarks targeting our president are nothing but an attempt by the Israeli government to cover up a massacre,” Foreign Minister Çelik said.
