President Joe Biden signed a $95 billion aid package for Israel, Ukraine and Taiwan on Wednesday.
The president faces mounting pressure over his support for Israel during the ongoing war in Gaza, but he dismissed such criticism.
“My commitment to Israel is profound,” he said.
Mr. Biden has repeatedly given the go-ahead for aid to Israel and twice bypassed Congress to provide it. But despite the president’s unwavering support, not everyone in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is impressed.
Diaspora Minister Amichai Tsikri said in a radio interview in Israel that “the United States is not performing well under (Biden’s) leadership and it is harming Israel and other countries.” “At the beginning of the war, he said ‘fuck it’ to Hezbollah and to Iran. We saw the results.”
Chikuli then mentioned the presidential election in which Biden is scheduled to face former President Donald Trump in a rematch in 2020.
“If I were a voting American citizen, I would vote for Trump and the Republican Party,” he said.
The interview caught the attention of MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Wednesday’s All In.
Hayes said the comments “raise the question of why Republicans suddenly decided to attack anti-war student protests instead of asking all the questions that have been unanswered throughout this conflict from day one of Hamas atrocities. “That may explain why they are showing so much interest.”
The moderator went on to ask, “What is the endpoint here?”
And how many will have to die? How much is acceptable? How many thousands? How many children do you have? And how will the hostages return? And with the threat of further mass destruction on the horizon, how will the people of Gaza find anything approaching a livable future? ”
