The White House confirmed Friday that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will be heading to Saudi Arabia and Israel this weekend.
Sullivan will visit Saudi Arabia on Saturday and meet with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss bilateral and regional issues, National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said.
Kirby said at a news conference that the two sides will also discuss “the war in Gaza, as well as the continued efforts to achieve lasting peace and security in the region.”
Sullivan traveled to Israel on Sunday to meet with senior Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, and to discuss “ongoing negotiations to secure the release of all hostages to address the humanitarian crisis and the enduring common goals of humanity.” We will discuss the war in Gaza, including the war in Gaza.” It is a defeat for Hamas,” the spokesperson said.
Sullivan will also talk about Israel’s operations in the southern Gaza city of Rafah, where more than 600,000 Palestinians have fled since May 6.
The visit is also being touted as an effort to advance plans to normalize relations between Israel and Saudi Arabia.
Sullivan was originally scheduled to visit Saudi Arabia in April, but the trip was canceled at the last minute after a senior Biden administration official suffered a broken rib.
