BEIRUT: Lebanese Agriculture Minister Abbas Hajj Hassan said the damage caused by Israel to the agricultural and other sectors of southern Lebanon is worth more than $3 billion (Rs 2,498,568 million).
Haji Hassan added on Tuesday that the ministry updates maps daily that include direct and indirect damage from Israeli attacks in southern villages and towns, state news agencies reported.
The minister said it was impossible to get a scientific answer on whether Israeli attacks harmed southern soil until the necessary investigations are carried out after the ceasefire, according to Xinhua news agency.
“We have set up a committee that is ready to investigate this soil as soon as the Israeli attacks stop,” he said, adding that the ministry has determined that for every tree burned by the “enemy,” 10 trees will be destroyed. He added that he would plant it.
He called for Arab investment in Lebanese agricultural projects, adding that there are also plans to develop the fisheries sector with around $2 million in Norwegian funding.
